Tucked away in a tree-shaded alley off Cowcross Street in fashionable Clerkenwell is The Rookery, a charming row of 18th century houses, repaired to create this delightful small hotel. Inside it is period charm. Polished wood panelling, stone-flagged floors, open fires and genuine antique furniture give the place a homely atmosphere, more private club than hotel. Each of the 33 rooms are different and are named after people who actually lived in the buildings over the last 250 years. The Rookery has the atmosphere of a private club, appealing enormously to visitors doing business in the square mile. The oak panelled Drawing Room and Library can be booked for meetings over breakfast, lunch and dinner. Delicious breakfast croissants are baked on the premises, though not in the 18th century bread ovens which still survive below stairs.

Hazlitt's is the ideal base in the heart of London's cosmopolitan Theatreland, with an intimate charm no large hotel can match. We occupy three historic houses in Frith Street, Soho Square. In 1718 there were no elavators, but we've updated the plumbing, installed bathrooms and replaced most of the candles with electricity. At Hazlitt's our philosophy is simple. We have set out to create the kind of accomodation we ourselves would love to find in the heart of one of the world's great cities. Civilised surroundings; old fashioned hospitality; friendly, efficient service; a location away from the roar of traffic, but within a very short walk of the most important attractions. Our rooms are tradional, with original panelled walls and mellow, unpretentious old furniture, pictures and rugs. Our croissants are baked fresh every morning.
